Is my baby too young to start Baby World and Me classes?

Is my baby too young to start classes?

I get quite a few parents ask me this when they are enquiring about my classes.  Baby World and Me  is designed for babies from birth so they are never too young to start! However, I appreciate parents value their recuperation time and establishing a routine to the day (if such a thing exists) before venturing out!

The youngest baby I’ve had start their Baby World and Me journey is 3 weeks but I get a lot of babies starting between 4-6 weeks as well.  The first year of your baby’s life is very important in developmental terms which is why it’s never too soon to start.  Neuro scientists believe singing songs and nursery rhymes to babies and infants before they learn to speak is essential to later educational success and emotional well-being. Neuro-imaging has shown that music involves more than just centralised hotspots in the brain, occupying large swathes on both sides. Babies are particularly responsive when the music comes directly from the parent. Singing along with a parent (even if you you’re no popstar like me!) is for the development of reciprocal communication. This is why we place so much emphasis on song here in class!

In fact recent research has shown that even while babies sleep, they are still processing information about their acoustic environment, and their brains are using that information to develop pathways for learning.

Although the majority of my class is led by me to follow a carefully structured theme, class plan and scheme of work I always incorporate free play so babies (and parents) can take a break, grab a free drink and either have some bonding and chat time with other parents or use the range of toys and materials set up for each class.

So if you are considering my classes or have further questions do get in touch, I’d love to hear from you. Edwina x
